Small businesses doing their own PR with help of entrepreneur

Entrepreneur launches course to help small businesses do their own PR…

An entrepreneur has come up with a New Year challenge for small business owners in search of a resolution for 2015. Campfire Communications, a communications agency run by a York mum has created a course to teach small businesses how to do their own PR in just 30 days.

Melissa Talago, founder of Campfire Communications and a PR expert with over 20 years of experience, created the course to help small businesses who could benefit from public relations but who can’t afford the services of PR companies.

‘PR is one of the most effective and affordable marketing tools a small business can use to build its brand. But many don’t think about it because they aren’t sure what PR is or how to do it. Others simply can’t afford the rates charged by PR companies. I am on a mission to help these organisations learn the skills they need so that they can tell their stories effectively to the press without paying someone to do it for them,’ explains Melissa.

The course covers a range of subjects like how to find newsworthy stories in a business, how to create news, how to find press contacts, how to write effective press releases and pitches, how to maximise press coverage and what to do in an interview.

‘Many business owners set New Year resolutions like learning something new or growing their business. This 30 day challenge will help them achieve both,’ says Melissa. ‘The course also offers an additional revenue stream for business coaches, virtual assistants, copywriters and marketers who want to add PR as one of their services.’

The course costs £499 and includes 12 online training modules with exercises and templates, ongoing feedback on the coursework submitted, and four training calls. After 30 days, users will have a comprehensive communications plan for the year ahead. Details can be found here
